The event will feature a vert demo with Tony Hawk and other legendary skaters and BMX riders on Tony’s personal ramp. There will also be activities for kids of all ages, food, and silent auctions during the festivities.

We’re excited to be a part of this amazing event and support such an exceptional cause.”

The Tony Hawk Foundation launched Stand Up For Skateparks in 2004. Its mission is to help create free, safe, and legal skate parks for youth in low-income communities across the country. Ergo clothing Cannon signature pant ($62) ! Andrew Cannon's signature skate pants from Ergo, perfect for skateboarding !

Courtesy of Ergo
The Ergo Andrew Cannon signature pants stretch where you need them to for solid skating performance
.
__________________________________________________

Ergo clothing has been in the skate and surf apparel game for a little while now. They're a smaller outfit than some of the dominant brands in the space but they're gaining momentum and doing things right. Our own Andrew Cannon has been riding for Ergo for some time and the brand recently rewarded his loyalty with a signature pant.

WHAT IT IS:
The Andrew Cannon signature pant from Ergo is a simple, tasteful and highly functional piece of skate apparel. No nonsense. No gimmicks. Just a solid pair of pants to go skateboarding in.

WHY IT RULES:
While there are several brands and pieces of clothing out there that are trying desperately to make a stand-out fashion statement, many skater (this one included) prefer to wear and skate in clothes that reflect skating's working-class, work wear style roots. If that's the look you're going for, these just may be the pants for you. A full sized stretch cotton twill pant with 18-inch leg openings, these pants are not for the skinny jean crazed fashionistas. The stretch cotton allows your legs to move, breath and even take some spills tearing them apart. If you flip up the cuff of these pants, there's an embroidered message urging folks to "Listen to Slayer," one of Cannon's favorite bands.

Here's what the folks at Ergo had to say about Cannon and his pant: "Reckless, hated, and chiseled ... These are all words that have never been associated with Andrew Cannon. A 25-year-old native to Pennsylvania, who grew up on a farm skating back and forth in his barn for hours. Although he looks more like a dad, he truly is a metal head and these signature pants are an ode to his all- time favorite band ... SLAYER!"

As for Cannon, he couldn't be happier about his threads. "These pants have the right amount of stretch for my tree trunk legs, they are black like the night and Listening to Slayer will never go out of style."

Courtesy of Ergo
Roll your pant leg and get this little embroidered surprise. Andrew Cannon really likes Slayer.

WHERE TO FIND IT:
You can purchase Cannon's Ergo pant at your local skateshop or online through Ergo's online store.

NHS SKATE BANDAGES !

(click picture to zoom!)

NHS has just come up with another genius idea, skate bandages! That's right, it's a little hard to believe that nobody has done this yet. This proves that there are still new and creative things that can be done with skateboarding. They've made bandages that feature graphics from Flip, Santa Cruz, and Creature.

If you're skating, it's pretty much inevitable that you're going to fall and cut yourself at some point. Given that, it makes total sense to wear a bandage that represents how you hurt yourself in the first place. Let's face it, those plain old tan Band-Aids are boring and played out anyway. Why not wear a skate graphic on your wound and give people something to talk about. Or as the guys at NHS point out, "you could just wear one on your face like Nelly for style points."

These bandages are available through the Medibadge website in a variety of different quantities. Pick some up today, these are sure to be a hit with kids and skateboarders everywhere. Heck, I wouldn't mind having a few of those Skateboarding Is Not A Crime bandages myself.

DIAMOND SUPPLY CO. X SO RAD COLLABORATION !

Diamond Supply Co. and So Rad have teamed up on a new collaboration featuring a hoody, jacket, and t-shirt. If you’re not familiar, So Rad is the brain-child of Joey Brezinski, and the “Rad” in So Rad stands for Rusy Audio Design. Their hoodies and jackets feature machine washable headphones in the drawstrings. You never have to worry about carrying headphones or leaving them in your pocket when you do laundry again!

My favorite item from the pack is the Cross Country hoody which features black embroidery of the Diamond and So Rad logos on the front with LA and NY on either side of the graphic, and the signature Diamond Tiffany color on the inside of the hood. The Glass Cutter is a windbreaker with grey side panels and a grey pattern on the inside of the hood that's perfect for the rain. The Cross Country tee features a grey print of the same graphic that appears on the hoody.

For this collaboration, Diamond and So Rad also produced a slick commercial featuring Joey getting innovative on a rock. People have been doing ollie up to powerslide for years, but I don’t recall ever seeing anyone flip out of that. Leave it to Joey to put a new twist on a classic trick. The Diamond So Rad collaboration is available this Fall.

HESH X FRESH - SKULLCANDY MAKES INDY HEADPHONES !

(click picture to zoom!)

here's no denying the connection that Independent Trucks has with music. Countless bands have worn the iron cross on stage over the past thirty years. They've even had a song made about them by the Daggers in 2008. It only makes sense that they teamed up with Skullcandy on their own signature Hesh headphones. Skullcandy is the hottest headphone brand out right now. They've worked with everyone from Lizard King to Jay Z on signature models. Their credibility is undeniable. Given the iconic status of Indy, Skullcandy is the only brand fit to produce these signature headphones. They do have Steve Caballero and Christian Hosoi on their legends team after all. The circular Indy logo just looks perfect on the side of this collaboration, rockers worldwide will definitely want to get their hands on these before they're sold out.

__________________________________________________________________

Somewhere along the Mississippi River at this very moment, pro skaters are skating a floating skatepark. Sponsored and created by Red Bull, the Mississippi Grind river barge tour is presenting a unique skateboarding experience. Built on a massive barge, this floating skatepark will travel a total of 1,705 miles from its launch point in Minnesota's Twin Cities to its final destination of New Orleans, La. Upon completion of the journey, Red Bull will donate the obstacles from the barge skatepark to the city of New Orleans to be placed in a public skate space.

The barge is hosting four contest events along its journey south including Minneapolis/St. Paul, Davenport, Iowa, St. Louis, Mo. and a final stop in New Orleans. These "Ticket to Grind" skate contests will feature 20 of each state's best skaters and the winner of each of the first three events wins a pass to the final event in the Big Easy on October 9. The winner of that event will take home $2,000.

Apart from the contests, several Red Bull pro riders and invited guest pros will be sessioning the barge and doing demo appearances at each stop. Pros already skating and scheduled to appear include Ronnie Creager, Zered Bassett, Kenny Anderson, Ron Deily and more. Check the Mississippi Grind website for remaining event dates and pro appearances.

BONES AND RUSS POPE COLLABORATE ON A CLASSIC !

(click picture to zoom!)

Bones has teamed up with legendary artist Russ Pope on a new series of wheels, tees, and stickers. Both have rich histories in skateboarding making this a fitting collaboration. Originally from San Luis Obispo, Russ Pope ran SMA skateboards in the early 90’s and later founded the brands Creature and Scarecrow. His unique style of artwork is instantly recognizable and works well with the Bones rat. Pope’s adaptation of the iconic graphic is cartoon like. His El Raton character has a sad look in it’s eyes and a nose that resembles a sideways black birthday party hat. The Pope Rat appears almost the same as the traditional Bones rat logo, except for the loose lined circle surrounding the image and Bones written in the artist’s signature script. Pope’s style is reminiscent of classic graphics from the eighties and nineties giving this new collaboration a cool retro feel. Whether it is intentional or not, this series seems to be paying homage to the days when Tony Hawk and Lance Mountain were searching for Animal Chin along with the rest of the Bones Brigade. The Russ Pope Los Otros wheels are currently available in 50, 52, and 54 MM along with the new tees and stickers.

Introducing SALBA CRUZ !

(click picture to zoom!)

Steve Alba, better known as Salba, is one of the pioneers of pool skating. His bold style and aggressive tricks made him a stand out in early Santa Cruz videos. He and his brother Mickey were staples of the 80’s contest circuit and legends in their time. A star quality runs in the family, if you’re not familiar with the Alba brothers; you might know their second cousin Jessica Alba.

Pool skating has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years with all of the amazing skate parks popping up all over the country. This has created a new demand for classics shapes and styles. Who better to deliver them than one of the originators of the genre? It seems like the perfect time for NHS and Steve Alba to launch their new project called Salba Cruz!

The initial concept for the brand comes from one of Salba’s old board graphics. “The seed for Salba Cruz actually happened when I did the graphic for the Angry Baby board in 1990. The top screen said Salba Cruz and was intended as a pun and it was so subtle that you really had to look to see if it spelled Santa Cruz. I did all of the artwork myself including the SC lettering that Phillips made up.”

Salba Cruz will feature boards in a variety of shapes with pool-inspired graphics and will incorporate found objects into the art direction. “I have been collecting pool signs for 20 years and some of the first round of boards will feature these images.” Salba has also recruited some of his friends to help build the brand and it’s credibility. Kelly Belmar from H.B.’s Factory skateboard manufacturing will be doing some limited runs of hand-built boards and Lance Mountain will be collaborating on some graphics. Salba Cruz is definitely off to a great start, we’ll keep an eye on how it progresses.

NEW VENTURE TRUCKS !

(click picture to zoom!)

We previewed Venture’s new 5.8 wides last week, now it’s time to dive into the rest of the catalog. The Don comes in green and gold – green for the money and gold for the honeys! Undoubtedly inspired by the legends of SF’s Fillmore district, this colorway is a must have for all you playas out there. They’re available in 5.0 and 5.2 lows and highs. Whether you’re low ridin’ or tippin’ on big wheels, The Dons got you covered.

Jack Curtin is one of the smoothest pro’s out. He had an amazing part in the LRG video last year, and has been crushing the Maloof contest series this summer. Being that he’s been riding Ventures for years, it’s fitting that he has his own signature truck. Jack’s Venture should be the truck of choice in the City By The Bay. It’s World Series Champion SF Giant’s black and orange colorway and Golden Gate bridge graphic scream San Francisco. Available in both 5.0 and 5.2 lows, the Curtin truck allows for a variety of board sizes. Pick some up now at your local Venture dealer, because these are going to be in high demand after Jack’s part in the upcoming DGK video and if the Giants return to the World Series.

Steve Nesser for Adeline Records !

Here’s one that’s a little out of the ordinary. The High 5′s Steve Nesser stars in this video for Adeline Records with a song by White Wives.

We bumped into Nesser a few times while we were all in New York and he was rocking and Adeline Records shirt and some stickers a few times, but I didn’t really put any thought into it. Then you remember that Steve’s sister is married to Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong who co-owns Adeline with her and Jim Thiebaud of Real Skateboards and Deluxe fame, and it all sort of comes together.

So, enjoy the skating. It’s classic Nesser with big snaps, odd spots, and powerful tricks.

Staff Review: Vans Rowley SPV !

Review: Christian Senrud (click picture to zoom!)
___________________________________________________________

It’s hard to go wrong with a shoe from Vans. They’ve been in the game the longest of any skate shoe company and they originated most of the designs that are still being emulated to this day. Geoff Rowley, too, has been responsible from some great designs and in keeping with his personal history as well as Vans’, they bring you the newest Rowley pro-model, the SPV.

The SPV’s style is indicative of classic Vans design. It’s simple and sleek with basic black or navy color ways. Rowley puts it bluntly in the advertisement: “It has no fucking gimmicks. It’s the lightest, lowest, grippiest shoe you could possibly make. That’s basically it really.” And that really is it.

(click picture to zoom!)

I skated these as my main skate shoes for about a month and had them as my non-hiking shoes on a backpacking trip where I had them packed away and their lightness was both noted and appreciated. From the time I laced them up out of the box, to when I donated them at a skatepark, I found that all Rowley and Vans tout for the SPV was true. They are indeed very light and grippy without yielding quicker wear. The only other thing that stuck out about these shoes was that their soles were even thinner than the standard Vans waffle grip.

Overall, I’d say the Vans Rowley SPVs are worth the $50-$60 you might spend on them at your local skate shop. If you’re looking for a simple, lightweight shoe you can skate right out of the box, these would suit you just fine.

Pros:
Light
Grippy
Affordable
Fairly resilient
Good looking
Laces don’t blow out super fast

Cons:
Not a lot of padding

Wes Kremer is Pro !

(click picture to zoom!)

Sk8 Mafia welcomes its newest professional skateboarder, Wes Kremer. Wes has put in hard work for years, with standout video parts, sick trick selection, and raw talent, drive and style. Andrew Reynolds called him the future of skateboarding more or less, and you know the Boss don’t sign off on just anybody. Congrats to Wes and the Mafia.

The announcement of Wes’ promotion is a bit of a no-brainer. Kremer’s been killing it for years and in days of many kids going pro before they really get their name out, Wes has held off going pro too early, though the style and skill have always been there. It’s refreshing to say the least, and everyone at Skateboarder Magazine is psyched that he’s finally pro, though we’re glad that he took the time and made it all the more worthwhile.http://www.skateboardermag.com/industry-news/wes-kremer-is-pro/

How To Heelflip ! ( cara melakukan hellflip).

The heelflip is similar to the kickflip, and is a natural next trick to learn. If you don't know how to kickflip, you can still learn to heelflip, but I recommend first Learning how to KICKFLIP in my BLOG POST, Heelflips are a little harder than kickflips.

Okay, Check this out !

STEP 1 - Heelflip Stance

Heelflip Stance / Foot Placement
______________________________

Position your feet like you would an ollie - with your back foot across the tail for the pop, and your front foot near the center of the board. However, you will want to have your front foot placed more forward on the board, so that your toes hang off a little. This will make the trick much easier.

STEP 2 - THE POP & KICK

The pop is done just like with an ollie, except that right after you pop the board into the air, you need to kick the heel of your front foot forward. Once your front foot leaves the skateboard, point the toes of your front foot up in the air, and kick your front foot forward, out in front of you. You want to be flicking the edge of the skateboard with your heel. This is, of course, why it's called a heelflip!

STEP 3 - Get Out of the Way

Heelflip - Out of the Way
______________________________

Just like with a kickflip, you want to get our feet out of the way of the board so that it can spin freely. Take this moment to pull your front foot back up underneath you, and get ready to catch the skateboard. When heelflipping, the skateboard can spin pretty fast. It helps to be looking down and watching the board spin, but try to not lean forward.

STEP 4 - Stay Level

Heelflip with P-Rod keeping it level
______________________________

Just like with the kickflip, make sure you stay level. If you lean too far forward - as in, toward your toes, you will tend to leave your skateboard behind you. Keep yourself level, and your weight over your skateboard. Take another look at this photo of P-Rod at the X Games, pulling off a switch varial heelflip. Notice how level his shoulders are with the ground.

STEP 5 - Catch the Skateboard

Once the skateboard has spun around completely one time, put your back foot on it to catch it. This means that you'll need to be watching your skateboard, to see when it has made one complete flip. This can be tricky - keep practicing. Some day when you are awesome, you'll have a stronger board sense and be able to kickflip without watching the board, but even pros look down when they do tricks, so keep an eye on that board. Once you catch the skateboard with your back foot, you'll want to put your front foot on the skateboard too.

STEP 6 - Land and Roll Away

Skater: Steven Reeves
______________________________

This is done just like with a kickflip. As you fall back toward the ground and land, bend your knees again. This is important! Bending your knees will help absorb the shock of landing on your skateboard, it will keep your knees from getting hurt from the impact, and keep you in control of your skateboard. bend your knees deeply as you land. Finally, just roll away. If this sounds simple, then great – get out there and practice! If this sounds too complicated, don’t worry. Just go slow, and take your time.

This is a lot of technical information to remember while trying to do a trick that takes only a second or two. Just make sure you understand the concept - make sure that you have a good mental picture of what's happening. Go practice, and if you run into a wall, come back and read some more, and hopefully you'll get it. Your body is learning how to heelflip more than your mind is, so it may take time. With practice, you’ll eventually get it.

STEP 7 - Alternate Heelflip Style

Alternate Heelflip Target
______________________________

The heelflip can be done other ways as well. A very popular method technically isn't a heelflip at all, but the skateboard does spin in the same way. This method is called the "Anti-kickflip", or "Opposite-kickflip", and most people find it easier than the true kickflip, and it can look a lot cleaner.

In this version of the heelflip, you want to set your feet up the same way you would for a kickflip. When you pop your board into the air, you make the same motion as with a kickflip, but you flick the board on the opposite corner (see photo). This makes the skateboard spin the opposite way from a kickflip. It's a fairly simple variant of the trick.

However, be careful - the kickflip is a more natural way for your board to want to spin. With this heelflip version, the board has a good chance of flipping up and nailing you in the groin. Sound like fun? Oh, it isn't.

PLG wins skate vert at SLC Dew Tour !

(click picture to zoom!)
Alli SportsFrom left to right: Shaun White, Pierre-Luc Gagnon and Bucky Lasek topped the skate vert podium at the Dew Tour Toyota Challenge in Salt Lake City, Utah.
_________________________________________________________________

Pierre-Luc Gagnon won skate vert at the Dew Tour Toyota Challenge in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, edging out Shaun White in second place and Bucky Lasek in third place.

Gagnon's runs consisted of tailgrab 540s, kickflip backside grab 540s, kickflip mute fakies and smooth kickflip body varial 540s. Gagnon's top score, a 94.00, was a full 4.25 points ahead of White, who landed 720s at height, fakie to fakie 540s and f/s stalefish 540s.

"That's the run I've been looking for all year. I didn't want to talk about the run before the event, so it means the world to me," said Gagnon immediately after the finals. The win in Salt Lake marks Gagnon's seventh career win on the Dew Tour, and pushed Gagnon into first place standings for skate vert on the 2011 Dew Tour.

White, unhappy with second place, dropped back in after Gagnon won, and attempted to land another run, but fell. Earlier in the day, he had alluded to a new trick, which the Dew Tour speculated could be a 1080, but White did not attempt it.

Bucky Lasek, who won vert at the Dew Tour Pantech Open event in late July, pulled switch b/s 360s, back to back 540s and heelflip f/s gay twists before going down on a nollie kickflip lien air.

Sandro Dias went down on a judo 540 early in the super finals, and recovered to pull a massive 540 to tail slap, but was unable to finish a full run. Dias finished in fourth place. Pedro Barros, who aired in the 6-8 foot range and attempted kickflip body varial 540s, was unable to finish a full run and settled for fifth place in the super finals.

Skate Vert, 2011 Dew Tour Toyota Challenge: Sept. 10, 2011, Salt Lake City, Utah

Rank Name Score
1. Pierre-Luc Gagnon 94.00
2. Shaun White 89.75
3. Bucky Lasek 87.75

SUPRA NYC Grand Opening !

SUPRA’s new NYC store in the heart of SoHo just had its grand opening last night as NYC’s famed Fashion Week kicked off. The streets were so packed, even the native New Yorkers couldn’t believe the turnout. After getting our wristbands in the SUPRA NYC store, we walked down the block to The New Museum’s rooftop terrace to enjoy free drinks and tunes by Just Blaze and other DJs. It wouldn’t be Fashion Week if we didn’t stop by a few other parties too. Check out the chaos in the slideshow.
SUPRA has its recap here.

DC Cole Lite S signature shoes ($80) !

The new Cole Lite S. from DC. Chris Cole's signature model.
__________________________________________________________________________________

DC shoes and Chris Cole seem like a match made in heaven. Cole, the two-time Thrasher magazine Skater of the Year and commensurate skate rat, needs a shoe that holds up to serious abuse. DC's got Cole's feet covered. For his latest pro model, the Cole Lite S, Cole got slightly more technical in the design. Cole still kept the classic aesthetics that adhere to his sense of style.

WHAT IT IS:
For Cole's second signature shoe design for DC, he wanted to maintain the simple aesthetic he likes but add a few of the bells and whistles that DC is known for to spice up the product. The result is a highly skate-able, suede, cupsole shoe that's lighter than usual and still very durable.

WHY IT RULES:
The Cole Lite S has some innovative technology inside but that doesn't mean that it's bulky or overly tech-looknig on the outside. On the contrary, the shoe's lines are clean and simple. A single-piece, suede toe cap is excellent for flip tricks without any of the stitching that tends to break or open up immediately upon skating the shoe. DC's Unilite midsole technology eliminates a lot of weight while maintaining both board-feel and durability. An Ortholite sockliner is used for added comfort and fit while the articulated foam ankle collar keeps your foot in place by preventing heel slippage.

Asked about the shoe's design, Cole had this to say:

"I tend to like shoes with a very simple plain style, but for my new shoe I wanted something new. DC has always led the way with designs that are unique, forward and refreshing. I wanted to have a shoe that looked fast, and they gave me it to the T."

WHERE TO FIND IT:
The Cole Lite S will be available in stores and online on January 1, 2012. So you'll have to wait a bit to cop these but it'll be worth the wait. Some colorway's will be available for in-store purchase only. So hit up your local shop and find out when they're getting the shoe.
